The Channel Islands, an island chain lying just off California's southern coast, appear quite close on clear days. More than 25 species of sharks inhabit the waters of the Channel Islands. By day, blue sharks are a common resident offshore, often visible from boats cruising the channel. By night, blue sharks move inshore to feed on anchovies and squid. The Channel Islands are known for rich biological diversity, historic shipwrecks and sea caves.
